Kai Sengokuhara Ryokan

Description

Here in Sengokuhara, part of the Fuji-hakone-Izu National Park and a popular hot-spring resort dotted with museums, try your hand at painting or illustrating with a local artist and one of our staff.

The rooms feature contemporary furnishings made by master artisans who practice a style of parquetry traditional to Hakone. Private outdoor baths, located on the terraces of each room and fed by waters from the Owakudani volcanic valley, gaze out onto the vast expanses of Sengokuhara.

Guests staying in the Signature Rooms also get to feast their eyes on room art created by resident artists. Twelve artists are invited from around the world to serve as artists in residence.

During their stay, the artists immerse themselves in the location to create artworks that are then displayed in the ryokan’s rooms.

Each artist offers a different perspective of Sengokuhara that enhances the ryokan’s sense of place. The bath halls are pumped with milky white waters, abundant in antibacterial qualities, from the Owakudani volcanic valley.

Each hall has two indoor baths, one hot and one just above body temperature, as well as an outdoor bath with a view of the surrounding forests and a water garden of luminescent stones.

Located between the men’s and women’s bath halls, the Yuagari Lounge allows guests to cool off after a bath while sipping on a refreshing beverage inspired by the local culture.
